los patos Beach

Like most of Barahona's beaches, this one has pebbles rather than sand, and is popular with surfers, who come to enjoy the fast crashing waves.  On the other side of the beach is the Río Los Patos, where a wide natural pool attracts locals who come here to swim and spend a fun afternoon by the river and near the beach.  Los Patos beach is located directly along the coastal highway between Barahona and Pedernales.

Catalina island

Jaragua national park

Located in the southernmost part of Pedernales, this natural reserve is one of the most important in the Dominican Republic and is part of the first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the country.   The 1,295 square kilometers of the Jaragua National Park encompass diverse ecosystems, from the sea to the land, lagoons and islands, Taíno caves, the beautiful and unspoiled Bahía de Las Águilas and the isolated Beata and Alto Velo islands.  The flora and fauna of this area are equal in diversity.   The different species that can be seen in the Jaragua National Park range from manatees to turtles, hawksbill, leatherback, loggerhead and green marine that nest on its beaches.  At least 400 species of flora have been identified, including tropical forests, cacti, mangroves and wetlands where more than 130 species of birds live, ten of which are endemic.   You can see large flocks of American flamingos, white crowned pigeons, as well as whit

Juan bolaños beach

Located in the heart of town, Playa Juan de Bolaños is conveniently located on the beachfront boulevard that offers views of the iconic El Morro cliff.  Residentss escape to this white sand beach and turquoise water during the week to watch the sun go down just before night falls. Oviedo lagoon

Guibia

Guibia used to be the place to be during the Trujillo era. There was a casino located next to the beach and it brought in all the rich and famous for some beach time and some fun. Later, for many years, this small beach and plaza were abandoned and forgotten. It was only used by surfers, daring local children looking to cool off and a dog or two.

The salto de aguas blancas

The first Cathedral of america

The Cathedral of Santo Domingo, better known as the First Cathedral of America, was declared in 1546 the first cathedral in the New World by Pope Paul III, at the request of Emperor Charles V.
