Cable car puerto plata

Going up the cable car in the city of Puerto Plata should be a must on your visit to the Dominican Republic. This peculiar transport has become an emblem for the city, as it is one of the most famous and visited points of interest.

Thee cable car has the function of climbing the popular Isabel de Torres hill, an elevation south of Puerto Plata of about 800 m high. On the trip you can enjoy and admire the beautiful views of the city and the coast. Once at the top, the beautiful botanical gardens surrounding the mountain offer the possibility of a pleasant walk.

At the top of the hill, an impressive Christ the Redeemer welcomes visitors with outstretched arms. A visit to Puerto Plata is not complete without a ride on the cable car, the only one in the entire Caribbean area, which has been in continuous operation since 1975.

This breathtaking 10-minute ride will take you through the air in one of the two cable cars 800 meters above the magical landscape of Puerto Plata, with the sea to the north and the green plains that will eventually lead to the end of the ride, at Loma Isabel de Torres. Explore this nature reserve and its botanical garden, and enjoy the cable car ride again on your way down.
